OpenOffice.org is an open-source office suite that can be freely downloaded here. It is available for Windows XP and up, OS X 10.7 Lion or higher, or Linux operating systems running version 2.6 or higher.
It was an open-sourced version of the earlier StarOffice produced by StarDivision, which Sun Microsystems acquired in 1999. There are multiple variants of OpenOffice.org, including StarOffice, LibreOffice, and NeoOffice.
OpenOffice.org uses the OpenDocument format (ODF), also accepted as international standard ISO 26300.
