Wine, formerly known as WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) is an API compatibility layer designed to allow Windows programs to be run directly on Linux, instead of a virtual machine or emulator. Wine can be used to run a large number of programs, such as office software, some games, and even Internet Explorer. A compatibility database is maintained at http://appdb.winehq.org/ .
Notes
- PlayOnLinux uses Wine.
- w:ReactOs has several dependancies with Wine.
